“Poets talk about “spots of time,” but it is really fishermen who experience eternity compressed into a moment. No one can tell what a spot of time is until suddenly the whole world is a fish and the fish is gone.”

WHAT IS ON THE FLY?

On the Fly is a nature journal that highlights certain experiences and reflections about fly fishing. In order to best reflect the nature journal genre, I've included many sketched images, anecdotes, lists, and facts. Through both sketches and written word, the journal teaches lessons about the sport, life, and the natural world. In creating this project, my goal was to create an immersive experience for all audiences, whether they know about fly fishing or not. Each page holds a lot of content, and the more you look the more you begin to notice. By reading each page, I hope that readers are able to put themselves in the fisherman's shoes, appreciating the beauty of all the natural world has to offer us. At the same time fly fishing is a technical process, requiring great amounts of patience, creativity, and determination to reach success. By following the fisherman's thoughts and observations, I hope that readers will be able to relate and apply similar characteristics to their own lives. Though this journal is about fly fishing, its overarching themes are applicable to anyone's goals, whatever those endeavors may be.
